Deputies with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) were allowed to grow out their beards a little longer this No Shave November in the name of charity.
Sheriff Scott Mascher allowed certified officers the opportunity to put the razor away for three months as part of the fundraising campaign, according to a YCSO news release. The agency then split the money raised among three charities.
For October, YCSO employees donated to the Prescott Area Shelter Services (PASS), ending the month with nearly $3,200. PASS is a woman’s shelter with the goal of alleviating Yavapai County’s need for an emergency shelter for homeless woman and children.
For November, YCSO chose to donate the month’s collection to Prescott U.S. VETS. This organization has the mission to successfully transition “military veterans and their families through the provision of housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support,” according to its website. It also provides employment services and job training. Donations collected by YCSO employees, including monies from a lady’s employee fundraiser tied to the campaign, totaled $3,615 for U.S. VETS.
The campaign continues into December with donations going to the YCSO employee fund set up to assist employees in times of need.
