LOS ANGELES (May 27, 2021) — Spectrum today announced a donation of $2,500 to U.S.VETS (United States Veterans Initiative) through the company’s national community philanthropic program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants, part of a $1 million programming commitment through year-end 2021.
Opened in 1993, U.S.VETS is the nation’s largest nonprofit service provider for homeless and at-risk veterans and their families. U.S.VETS provides individual and group mental health counseling, substance use treatment, as well as individualized case management plans, employment and career development, advocacy and benefits assistance.
The $2,500 Spectrum Employee Community Grant was presented today to U.S.VETS in Inglewood. The funding will help provide rapid re-housing and homeless prevention services to low-income veteran families.
“Through Spectrum Employee Community Grants, we’re proud to provide support to vital community organizations with which our local employees are already volunteering their time and talent,” said Deborah Picciolo, Spectrum Senior Vice President. “Together, we’re building stronger communities where our customers and employees live and work across America.”
“U.S.VETS is on a mission to end veteran homelessness and we believe that all veterans deserve every opportunity to live with dignity and independence,” said Larry Williams, U.S.VETS Interim Executive Director. “We are only at the beginning of our partnership with Spectrum and look forward to the great things we will achieve together to advance our mission and provide veterans with opportunities.”
Spectrum employee Milo Staley, a Maintenance Technician and U.S. Navy veteran, nominated U.S.VETS for the grant. Staley said, “U.S.VETS was there for me when I was dealing with PTSD after five combat tours with the U.S. Navy. I ended up homeless and without hope, and they helped me and other veterans get back on our feet and transition back to civilian life. Thank you Spectrum for supporting the extraordinary work that they do every day.”
Spectrum Employee Community Grants has provided funding to more than 250 local nonprofits in 30 states throughout the company’s service area since its inception in July 2019.
Recipients deliver critical social services, helping underserved residents meet basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, job training and neighborhood safety. Each awardee is nominated by one of the company’s 96,000 U.S. employees who has volunteered with the organization for at least one year.
Spectrum Employee Community Grants are one of several philanthropic programs at Charter Communications, Inc. — which operates the Spectrum brand — developed to support communities where the company provides service and where its employees live and work.
